Manufacturing is an energy-intensive industry. We know it, and we are doing something about it. Maybrey Precision Castings, as part of the Caro Group, has been pursuing a structured programme of carbon reduction since 2018 — and the progress is measurable.
What Carbon Net Zero Means to Us
Carbon Net Zero means reducing the carbon emissions generated by our business to as close to zero as possible, with any residual emissions offset by verified carbon removal activities. It is a more demanding standard than simply purchasing carbon offsets, and it is the standard we hold ourselves to.
We are working towards full Carbon Net Zero ahead of the UNFCCC Race to Zero targets: net zero by 2050, and a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
What We Have Done
The carbon reduction programme at Maybrey and across the Caro Group has involved change at every level of the business:
- Energy: transition to green energy contracts and investment in energy-efficient machinery, including resistance and induction furnaces selected for their lower energy consumption
- Transport: expanding our electric and low-emission vehicle fleet and reducing business travel
- Supply chain: sourcing pattern makers, core makers, and finishing contractors within ten miles of our Aylesford facility, reducing transport emissions from subcontracted work
- Operations: consolidating deliveries, moving appropriate meetings online, and implementing a car-sharing scheme across the team
Future Net Zero Recognition
Our efforts have been independently verified through the Future Net Zero (FNZ) programme, which assesses and certifies carbon reduction achievement at three levels: Silver, Gold, and Platinum. We have already achieved the Silver award, which verifies a significant and measurable reduction in our carbon footprint against our 2018 baseline.
The journey does not stop there. We are committed to progressing through the FNZ programme as our carbon reduction work continues.
